Hi there, welcome to ‘A City Guide for Anxious People’.
This Blog is dedicated to everyone out there who is a little bit like me – introverted, maybe shy, easily overwhelmed and an emotional mess but still loves to travel.
Believe me, it can be a struggle. I love exploring new things while at the same time everything new stresses me out.
More than once I find myself searching for a place to eat that is fancier than McDonald but also not fancy enough to become awkward when I show up alone. A place that is empty enough so I won’t feel trapped between too many people but also crowded enough to give the waiters reasons to focuse on anyone but me.
And every time I wish there would be a guide for this. The perfect cafe shop for anxious people, the perfect restaurant, the perfect bookshop. But there isn’t and I’m pretty sure that in the near future nobody is going to be weird enough to do it.
So I am going to do it. Maybe it helps somebody but even if no one reads this, I’m still having fun.
As I am a very geeky person I’m going to do a lot of geeky things. If you’re looking for the most beautiful London bookshop or a random Tardis in the street, this is the place for you. If not, you’re still welcome to stay but consider yourself warned.
In case you’ve wondered (which you’ve probably not) my name is Leonie, I’m 18 and I’m from a very small village in Germany. I’m extremely introverted, love doing things on my own, drinking tea and petting cats and I am afraid of everything that involves social interactions.
Nevertheless I decided to spend half a year in London after graduating from school – on my own.
So yeah, this is mainly me freaking out and trying to be helpful.
Have fun!
What you can expect from this Blog:
• stories from my time in London
• suggestions for great places and things to do in London that are fun alone or in small groups and are suitable for people who aren’t too comfortable with social interactions
• detailed instructions on how to do things in London (like grocery shopping, going to a restaurant or buying tickets for a specific museum)
• anything else I feel like writing about
Disclaimer: I’ll mainly be focusing on anxious feelings regarding social situations in this Blog as I’m experiencing those myself and therefore know what I’m writing about. However, I will try to include information about how some of the places may effect other forms of anxiety like claustrophobia as well as the accessibility for disabled people whenever I can.
